I got a ton of emails like this from people regarding the Baker Univ Senior that's been helping me the past couple of years. He ran his own leg riding camp in Iowa this past weekend. I tried to set up 2 others for him, but had to cancel. I think people don't attend if I'm not there. But emails like these should definitely help with concerns. He does a great job, and no longer do I feel apprehensive about missing a session. Just wanted to pass this along. Thanks - Tony

*I am Dave Wenger, head wrestling coach at Albia High School in Iowa.  I felt compelled to email you to let you know how pleased I was with your coach, Brett Delich at our camp.  He possesses a remarkable ability to work in a very productive manner with all of the wrestlers that attended the camp.  We had quite a few young and inexperienced wrestlers that attended our camp and I was very impressed with Brett's ability to remain patient, while showing each wrestler the individual attention that they needed and deserved. He is a very personable young man and I would feel very honored to have him on my staff.  Please give him a pat on the back and tell him good job!!  It is much deserved!!

*Tony,
Was at the Ground and Pound Camp in Albia with my son over the weekend and Brett did an excellent job.  By noon on the first day I was amazed by how well my 8 year old had picked up on things.  Brett and your system has to be given credit for that.  I might not considered him a “legger” at this point but he is definitely on the right path.  We will continue to drill and I really believe he will be very effective with this come wrestling season.  I can’t say enough good things about Brett, very good with the kids, great patience and very personable.  He did a great job teaching technique.  I really enjoyed talking to him and will follow his wrestling at Baker.  It was about a 200 mile trip for us one way and even Zach agreed that it was worth every mile.  I am an assistant coach with our high school program and am involved with our youth program.  If you are ever interested in making a trip to Western Iowa we would love to have you guys and would promote the camp to make sure we have a good turnout.  Brett is welcomed in my wrestling room anytime.  Thanks again!

*  Just wanted to let you know what a GREAT job Brett did at the Albia camp!   Joel got a ton of good stuff out of it.  In fact I'd like to have him go to another ground n pound camp to reinforce this stuff even if it means coming down to Missouri next time. In fact if anyone would like to call me and ask questions I'd be glad to do that too because I stayed and watched the whole time. Brett had every kid in that room learning that technique.  No need for video tapes at all when the kids walk out of there and actually know what they've been taught, every bit of it.  Very impressive.
Joel went to 6 camps this summer, all of them top-notch, but if he could retake only one of them next weekend it would be this one.  Not because he didn't learn, but to start the process of committing the knowledge to muscle memory!

*Tony, I just want to thank you for the last clinic in Diamond. I was really impressed.  I have been around wrestling all my life and have been to many camps and clinics.  For a one day session my son has taken more useful technique than in any other camps or clinics... I really appreciate you taking time to train these kids... We will look forward to seeing you at the next Diamond Session.

Much Respect,
Andy

*Tony, Wanted to thank you for the great job you did with the clinic.  I am amazed at the level of your wrestlers.  I will try to work with my son as best I can on his movement.  I appreciate you pointing that out.  I knew he was lacking on his feet but did not realize how bad since he is rarely exposed to high caliber wrestlers.  He has some very bad habits on his feet, I have been having trouble breaking them.  We have been to several Chertow camps as well as several camps in upper Illinois and I will say first hand none match your  instruction or the quality of your room.  Please keep me informed of any future clinics.  We look forward to seeing you at least once a month at the Diamond Clinic.

Monthly Clinic Opportunity

  • I hope everyone understands the impact that a monthly clinic can have on their wrestler.  Where else, and in what other sport, can a serious athlete gain access to a year round, monthly training session. Being great at a handful of skills is the key to becoming successful.  Being bombarded with a ton of random moves will not greatly improve any athlete.  All pwa clinics are based on this concept, and only the PWA system will be covered at this clinic. No clinic moves, only proven technique, taught in a series.  Our technique solves problems.  And being exposed to the system, on a monthly basis, can only help the kids Additionally, the kids will gain access to the weekly practice session held each Wednesday (6-8), at the same location.  Technically, the Wed session will be drill intensive, working on the techniques we covered the previous Sunday session.  For those who can't attend the weekly session, I'd urge you to find time to drill, and perfect, the techniques covered.  Additionally, Wrestlers are always going to become great on their own time!   And ideally, this is how the monthly session should be approached.  Come to the session, learn a handful of very important techniques, and then spend several hours the next month making these techniques second nature.  Do this, and in one year your son will see a bigger improvement than he's seen in all his wrestling years combined!  I feel that the whole concept of 'a monthly clinic', is a great idea.  For those who use these sessions as a TOOL , and not as a random thing they attend a couple times a year, they will see huge gains in their sons skill level.
 Scoring Clinics:  What are they?
  • I run a series of clinics through out the year.  They are either one day or two day clinics, depending on the position covered.  They are position specific, meaning we spend the entire clinic on one area (ex. leg riding, mat wrestling, throws, low single, front headlock position, etc.). A one day clinic costs $45, and includes 5 1/2 hours of instruction.  Two day clinics are $80.  For example, a mat wrestling clinic will be a two day clinic, with the first days focus on the bottom position, and the second days focus on the top position.  A clinic focusing on leg riding would generally be a one day affair.  All technique is taught in a series, and retention by the wrestlers is of top priority.  If you'd like to be included in a mailer when clinics come up, please email me and I will put your email in my clinic folder.  If you'd like to host a clinic in your area, email me and I'll do my best to accommodate. People love this format!  The parents see the benefit, and see their kids improve so much in a short time.  The kids learn how to drill, learn how to train properly, and retain what they've been taught.  I've been using this format since '98, and haven't changed it for a reason, and that's because it works.   tony@purlerwrestling.com    I'm currently working on clinic dates, check back often.
